What Can Your Ass Do For You?

(I used the word “ASS” in the title to attract the attention of all of us who wouldn’t read anything that has “ASSESSMENT” in it. Please note that the following blog entry will indeed be about assessment 🙂

My understanding of assessment is simple – once we know how we’re doing and where we are, we become aware of where we’re going. It prepares us for the future and gives us an idea of what our next step will be.

In my classes, I assess you to understand how to help you and to help you understand how you can help yourself (lots of “helps” in that one, I know. Advice: read it through a few times. That HELPS me 🙂

But my assessment of you isn’t the most important here. Guess which one is more significant. Yep – YOUR OWN!

Only when you note your own progress (even the incremental one) you are naturally motivated to learn more. And I LOVE when the students come to me and stay with me driven by their intrinsic motivation. With such, your desire to practice comes from within and practice rarely feels like a drill.

So get your “Ass” on!
